Construction / Specifications
All of our buildings are constructed using pressure treated high quality timber to ensure longevity and a perfect build on site. All buildings come with a 1-year general guarantee and a 15-year anti-rot guarantee.
Timber is a natural product, subject to changes caused by environmental conditions. Cracks and shakes in timber do occur. To minimise contraction and expansion of timber, it is essential to maintain your building. It is recommended that periodically, a good quality preservative be applied externally.
We use quality red wood tongued & grooved boards for cladding. These are available in a variety of thicknesses and designs ranging from 19mm x 125mm (15mm x 115mm) tongued & grooved shiplap, to 32mm x 125mm (28mm x 110mm) loglap. We finish in a wide choice of water based exterior base coat finishes. Alternatively, you can supply a preservative which we will apply as we construct your building.
A choice of tongued & grooved floorboards are also available. These can be from red or white wood and are housing quality. We do not use any sheet materials in our buildings. Our floors sit on 50mm x 75mm Tanalised bearers. This provides an air space under the floor allowing surface water to dry and preventing damp getting into the building.
The roof deck is constructed using a quality redwood 19mm x 125mm (15mm x 115mm) tongued & grooved matchings. A 22mm x 125mm (19mm x 115mm) option is also available. We use heavyweight 38kg green mineral felt on the roof. Other options include a variety of felt shingles, Red Cedar shingles, timber overlays and Onduline bituminous corrugated sheets.
We offer a choice of framing timbers ranging from 38mm x 50mm (34mm x 44mm) through to 50mm X 100mm (44mm x 94mm). All are either smooth planed or regularised and most options have rounded corners.
A wide choice of windows and doors are also available. Doors range from standard ledged & braced to a mortise & tenon joinery made door. Windows range from simple fixed shed windows to joinery made windows. Doors and windows that are joinery made are available in many styles for any of our buildings. Sealed unit double-glazed windows and doors are also an option. As standard we use 4mm Acrylic glazing – not to be confused with the inferior styrene glazing. We can also supply glazing in 4mm float glass, toughened glass or polycarbonate.
All of our buildings are screwed from the inside using top grade screws. They can also be bolted together if required. We use strong Galvanised Tee hinges on shed doors along with a Heavy Duty Hasp & Staple. We fix these with security screws and with coach bolts if required.
A note on timber sizes
We believe the customer should always know what they are getting. Many companies give the dimensions of their timber in the nominal un-machined size. It may be advertised as e.g. 16mm cladding. Whilst this is the correct size, it actually only has a 12mm finished thickness. We always show our timber dimensions with the finished size in brackets, so you know exactly what you are getting
